An Extraordinary Parent

Today while we were waiting in a doctor’s office, my mom noticed my dad’s hands were dry. Mom reached in her purse and found some lotion. She put the lotion on her hands and then walked over and took dad’s hands in her hands to put on lotion.

A simple act of kindness.

When my mom finished putting lotion on dad’s hands, she looked over at me and said, “If you ever get married, you need to be sure and tell your husband he is important to you and that you really love him.” Tears welled in mom’s eyes and she went on to say, “I didn’t tell your dad enough before, but I am now.”

Profound words of wisdom.

While I am obviously no expert on marriage, I think mom gave some pretty good marriage advice today. Since I may never utilize that advice, I hope you will.

But in addition to giving marriage advice, my mom just modeled some great parenting. She was willing to admit that she hadn’t done something as well as she could have or maybe wished she had, but wanted to try to make sure that as her child I didn’t make the same mistake.

I am paying close attention to what my mom tells me.

She is an extraordinary parent.

I was frustrated because I wasn’t able to read this blog last week. Amazing advice! So blessed to have this example in my life.

Wonderful story. It still amazes me every day how much our Mom’s really know. This will be a story to remember and pass along for generations to come.
