Workshop Objectives
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of mental health counselors when participating in legal proceedings, including distinctions between factual and expert witness testimony and the ethical considerations defined by professional codes and state regulations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of courtroom procedures and effective communication strategies, including preparation for testimony, managing cross-examination, handling subpoenas, and protecting client confidentiality under HIPAA and FERPA guidelines.
- Apply courtroom testimony skills through practical exercises, such as role-plays, case analysis, and documentation preparation, to enhance confidence, clarity, and professional integrity when involved in legal cases.
